Project description
The n2EDM experiment searches for the electric dipole moment of the neutron, providing a sensitive probe of physics beyond the Standard Model and of new sources of CP violation. The University of Bern is a long-standing member of the neutron EDM collaboration, with past and ongoing contributions to the development and operation of experimental hardware, data analysis, simulations, and the investigation and control of systematic effects.
The position is based at the University of Bern at the Albert Einstein Center for Fundamental Physics (AEC) and the Laboratory for High Energy Physics (LHEP) and involves regular experimental work at PSI, where the student will be fully integrated into the n2EDM experimental program and actively participate in data-taking shifts and the operation of the experiment.
Tasks
The successful candidate will join the Fundamental Neutron and Precision Physics Group at AEC/LHEP and work on the n2EDM experiment at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Villigen, Switzerland.
Profile
Applicants should hold, or expect to obtain, an MSc degree in physics. A strong interest in experimental physics, precision measurements, data analysis, and computational methods is expected. Experience with programming, Monte Carlo simulations and statistical data analysis would be an advantage.
